Ive always been aware of deterioration, and see in everything a resistance or acceptance of it. My long-standing interest in vehicles & buildings has brought them into my paintings as subjects, where they act as stand-ins for their owners. Subtlety and contrasts are important elements, as the linear edges dissolve and touch on a loss of order, while the muted pastel palette lifts the paintings back up. Using the legacy of oil painting to hold an image still in time, urban and rural landscapes become backdrops for my ideas, showing objects that either move (are in use) or are stuck (disintegrate).
